The first "talking" picture produced in the United States was "The Jazz Singer" starring famed white entertainer Al Jolson, with one scene featuring him singing "Mammy" in blackface. Blackface and minstrel were the most prominent (white) American entertainment pastimes of the 19th century and into the early 20th century.
