Saturday, April 28
2349 Shattuck Avenue, Downtown Berkeley
Activist and author Betty Reid Soskin will give a highly personal talk about her new memoir “Sign My Name to Freedom,” which tells the 96-year story of Soskin’s life as a Black woman. A national treasure, Soskin has lived through decades of social tumult in the Bay Area—working on the home front during WWII and assisting the Black Panthers during the Civil Rights Movement. She will explore the decades-long history of racial upheaval in the United States, leading up to the current resurgence of anti-Black violence.
This special event is part of Independent Bookstore Day and the Bay Area Book Festival.
